Do you recall a day when the school parking lot was filled with tractors? I do! I remember it vividly, as it was less than a year ago! I teach in a small, rural consolidated school and seeing tractors parked alongside cars is just part of the typical school year. Our rural school is home to just under 1,000 students from kindergarten to seniors, all in one building! I truly enjoy the benefits of working in a corporation where I can witness my students grow from frightened 5-year-olds as they enter the building for the first time to eager 18-year-olds anxious to leave it behind!
The sense of family created in this tiny rural corporation is something that is appreciated by everyone in our community.
Parents enjoy the familiarity they have with teachers and staff members and they feel comfortable leaving their children for the first time. They also feel grateful for a watchful eye of past teachers as their children develop into teenagers. Knowing that I have such an influence on these students is an astounding feeling. I am fortunate to be a part of such a close community where the bonds I create can last a lifetime.
My Project
Students gather around the guided reading table to receive instruction in a smaller setting. They love this time! We are seeking some flexible seating options for the students. They love stools! These stools would be perfect for our table. It is a smaller table and using six large chairs creates crowding. These stools would give each child individual space while saving room for everyone to be comfortable while working. The bottom of the stool is rounded. This will allow movement for students who would normally fidget in the chair. It also builds core strength for those who need to work on their gross motor skills. The stools can also be moved easily around the room for other tasks and projects. They are a nice option that meet many needs in the classroom.
