Through these texts, students are strengthening foundational literacy competencies such as sound–symbol correspondence, decoding accuracy, automatic word recognition, and prosody. As students gain mastery, they are also building the cognitive capacity needed for deeper comprehension of more complex texts in the future.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks purposeful, structured, and empowering. During small-group instruction, teachers use the decodable sets to target specific phonics skills and provide immediate feedback. Students also engage in partner reading and independent practice with texts that are appropriately matched to their current skill level. Instead of guessing at unfamiliar words, students are confidently applying decoding strategies and experiencing real success.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously felt hesitant about reading are especially benefiting from these books. Because the texts are accessible and skill-aligned, these readers are completing entire books independently—often for the first time.
