My students need different types of seating to match their individual needs. By having these different options for my students to choose their seat for the day, I will be able to keep their attention longer.
My students are growing and learning in the same school and community that inspired me to be a teacher. My students show me everyday how important it is to grow as learner not only for myself, but also for them to help teach their growing minds.
They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
As a teacher having these traits in my students makes my job that much more enjoyable because they are so curious to learn and with the flexible seating I am asking for. It will only increase their love for learning.
My Project
In my first grade classroom my students are rocking back and forth in their chairs or choosing to stand up instead of sitting in a chair all day long. I am asking for many different types of alternative seating for my students such as yoga mats to allow the student to lay down to help with handwriting or stool to allow them to sit at different level desk.
Flexible seating such as the Gaiam Kids Balance Ball will help keep my students focused on the lesson instead of falling of their chairs because they are rocking on two legs.
The Balance balls will also help my students work on their fine motor skills and balance.
I have done the research found that letting students choose their seats for the day, makes them feel more in charge of their learning. Flexible seating is becoming a move in the education world!
