This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first grade urban classroom consists of 22 students who live in Buffalo, NY. My classroom is very diverse and the majority of my students come from poverty-stricken areas. All of the students in my classroom qualify for free lunch at the school.
My first grade students come to school ready and eager to learn!
They love center time and story time. They also love working with their peers, and having fun while they learn.
My goal is to provide students with the opportunity to be successful, by providing the best learning environment possible tailored to their individual needs.
Furthermore, I want to provide students a cozy classroom where every student feels welcome, relaxed and ready to learn! Please join me in providing students with flexible seating for them to sit in during independent reading and writing time!
My Project
Research shows that allowing students to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options greatly enhances their focus. With a fulfilled project, my classroom would change immensely. I would be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs. Students would be able to use wobble stools, stability cushions, folding chairs, floor cushions, and inflatable seating to allow them to become more comfortable, find a responsible working space and get the most out of our work times and classroom activities.
The materials I have chosen for my classroom reflect what is needed to create a positive and successful learning environment.
By providing my students with flexible seating options you are directly helping me create a structured classroom! The environment shapes experience and I want students to view reading and writing as a fun, meaningful, and creative process.
Having flex space chairs and floor seats in the classroom will provide students with a different option besides sitting in a hard chair.
