My Students
My students are curious, energetic seven and eight-year-olds that have the desire to learn. I have a class of ten ESL students, and four students receiving special education services.
My school is located in Bridgeport, Ct and many of the families income is below the poverty line.
99% of our students qualify for free lunch. Despite not having much, the families of my students are engaged and invested in their child's education. Due to limited resources of the families, it is often very difficult to ask parents to send school supplies and thus I usually buy student supplies.
I believe my students could learn more if they had a classroom that matched their sensory needs and concrete needs. In addition, there are many different student needs in the class and there are no paras.
I would love your help in helping my students reach their highest potential.
My Project
My students with learning differences and sensory needs will be able to choose flexible seating to learn at the highest potential. Each day students are sitting in hard metal chairs for each lesson. They get very little opportunity to move. Many times they exhibit negative behaviors just because they are required to sit upright so much of the day. Flexible/alternative seating will allow students choices and help students to sit in other areas of the class to write, read and complete assignments. I'm requesting Balance Ball Chairs, Wobble Cushions, Wobble Chairs, plastic stack stools, and clipboards. Materials can be stored n the Sterilite storage crates.
The Purell hand sanitizer will allow students to stay clean and healthy.
This will increase attendance and keep students in school.
