My students need flexible seating that will allow them to collaborate comfortably as they work on student-centered, problem-based STEM projects.

My Students

"That was AWESOME!" exclaimed some of my students when we finished our first ever STEM Design Challenge. They come from a variety of different backgrounds and ability levels. Some of them "hate" school and some of them "Love" it.

My students are energetic, and eager to learn and collaborate!

It is our goal to equip students with the problem solving and collaboration skills they need to be successful in the future. Approximately 25% of the students in my school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and are considered "at-risk". It is important for my students to know that they are all capable of being successful!

My Project

Flexible seating is not only about having comfortable seating, it is about allowing student choice as well as opportunities for movement and easier collaboration. Students who have a voice in their seating are more likely to work harder when they are not stuck in the same seat day after day. By being able to set up different seating areas in my classroom, my students will be able to collaborate more effectively with their team mates while working thorough the design process in our STEM classroom.

My students will feel like our classroom is a place where they are safe and can do their best thinking.

Most classrooms have desks set up in rows and students are asked to sit for at least 45 minutes at a time during each of their 8 class-periods. That is a lot of sitting in hard plastic chairs with limited movement. In my classroom with flexible seating students will be able to choose a seat that best suits their learning style while limiting classroom distractions.
