My students are apart of our unique population. I work with students with various disabilities. To protect the privacy of my students I will not go into detail about their disabilities however I will say that under the ECEA there are fourteen disabilities that have been identities. I work with and service students with seven of those disabilities.
This is turn has its challenges but also an immense amount of reward.
My students needs vary from academic support to social emotional support and all the little pieces in between. No one of my students is similar and all require different supports to make them successful and that is the beauty of my students.
My students strive to grow and love meeting their goals. My students work hard everyday to close those gaps and prove they are just as capable as the next student. What a privilege it is to work with them each day.
My Project
We all know that sitting in a regular chair for hours is just not feasible for our students now a days. With such limited time for exercise and recess throughout the day it is important our students can move and be comfortable as they learned.
We all know when we are comfortable we are much more inclined to focus and be ready to learn.
When we give our students the freedom to learn around the classroom in ways they are comfortable we see students who are happy and much more engaged.
Our students spend more time with us than at home during the school year and should feel at home when they are here. If we bring in a little bit of comfort it will go a long way.
The navy rug will be used for a more relaxed setting. The stools with cushions and white bucket chairs will allow students the choice of where they feel they will work best. The sensory bottles, squish balls, rubber bands, and sensory balls will help when students feel over stimulated or need a sense of balance. The organizational hanging pocket folders will help with systems to foster independence in my students.
