Flexible Seating Options Will Improve Reading Engagement and Focus
Help me give my students flexible seating for independent reading time. Middle school students get easily distracted by their peers. They sometimes need to move to a different location in the classroom to be engaged in their text.

My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners from low socio-economic backgrounds. The student enrollment at my school is 65% low-income and 15% English language learners. Many of my students are reading below grade level and need extra motivation to read outside the classroom. In my classroom, there is a goal that students will finish 1-2 books each week with them reading 20 books for the year. Many are falling short of this, and incentives would help motivate to gain reading stamina and increase their reading attitude.
My Project
Flexible seating such as floor seats would allow my students more choice when it comes to independent reading. They will be able to select the location in the classroom that allows them to be engaged in reading and productive.
Being comfortable while reading is important and allows students to be at their best.
I want my students to have a choice in deciding how they learn best. If they wish to stay at their regular desks, they can and if they wish to move to a different location, they should have that opportunity. By obtaining comfortable seating for my students, they have options!
