Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As the beginning of the school year is approaching (August 19th!), I am so eager and excited to meet my 5th graders! If teaching summer school this summer has taught me anything (& it's taught me A LOT), it's that this district is full of some of the brightest, kindest, funniest, and most energetic students out there. This summer my 5th graders tackled Climate Change. So when we say the children are our future, these children truly are. They are going to take on some of the biggest challenges our world has ever seen, and there is no doubt in my mind that these students can do it.
I believe, with all of my heart, mind, and soul, that my students are going to be world-changers.
That is why this project is so important to me. My students deserve the best learning environment, the same range of opportunities as all of their peers, and the most comprehensive education we can give them. Let's make it happen, together!
My Project
Flexible seating options have been proven to pour out benefits for elementary students across the country. Some of these benefits include: the power of choice, physical health benefits, increased comfort allowing for increased focus, community building, collaboration opportunities, sensory input, greater communication skills, and fun in the classroom!
In our classroom, community building and the power of choice are at the forefront.
The purpose of the large area rug is to create a space for our daily Community Building Circle that looks different from the academic learning space: somewhere my students feel comfortable to be honest and open with their classmates and themselves as we tackle the needs of the whole child, not just their academic ones.
Additionally, I am looking to give my students various flexible seating options as a way of giving them choice in their learning. By adding the element of choice, students feel heard and gain ownership over their academics and their environment. The real world is full of choice, and the classroom should be too.
