My Students

I am a third grade public school teacher in a very culturally diverse community. Throughout the entire school day, my nine year old students are with me learning math, reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, science, social studies, and social skills.

My students feel empowered when they get to have a say in the setup of their daily environment.

They work best when they get to choose where they work and with whom.

If you come into my classroom, you will find active & engaged learners who are making many of the daily decisions themselves. They take ownership over their work because all of our learning is connected and grounded in real life situations.

My Project

I am asking for 6 flex-space seated chair cushions for students to use in my classroom. These 6 cushions will be used throughout the day and rotated so that all students in the classroom have the chance to enhance their excitement and independence in learning.

Research helps to show that flexible seating in a classroom enhances student motivation, communication, collaboration, comfort, community, and physical health.

These cushions will also help stimulate my students’ sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD, and ASD.

Students will use these cushions in all content areas throughout the day and it will help to break up the 6 core subjects that I teach, as my nine year olds are with me all in the general education classroom.
