My Students
Our school is a Title I school that provides educational experiences to a diverse group of children. Our classroom is filled with different personalities and students who come from a variety of backgrounds. Each student, family, and the teachers that work with my students help make our classroom family!
My students strive to do their best every single day and strive to meet my high expectations each day.
My goal is to create an environment that will not build their self confidence, but also ensure their success in all academic areas within the classroom setting. For some students, school is the only place where they feel loved and safe. As their teacher, my job is to love and protect them by providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to grow and learn as individuals. I love providing them with new experiences on a daily basis.
My Project
In the past, I created a project, that was successfully funded, for different types of flexible seating. My students have really enjoyed using lap boards to sit in different areas around the classroom, exercise balls instead of regular seats at their desks, and one special chair that incorporates an exercise ball within a somewhat normal seat. Flexible seating allows the students to continue working, but have the option of sitting in something other than a regular chair. With this project, my students have really enjoyed taking turns using the seat that incorporates the exercise ball. They're able to roll around since the chair has wheels and they can still freely move and bounce on the seat part as well. Since we only have one seat like this in the classroom, the students have to take turns using it to be fair. With 22 students they only get to use the chair about once a month. Having more chairs like this special one will allow my students to sit in a comfortable seat and continue to work at their desk.
