Flexible Seating: Learning and Focusing in All Different Ways!
Help me give my students the ability to learn comfortably and maintain focus throughout the school day with wiggle cushions, chair balls, and chair fidget bands.
My students are a very diverse group of hard-working students. They come from a very disadvantaged neighborhood, we have about a 99% free/reduced lunch. As compared to the 6 other elementary schools in my school district, the students at my school are unable to provide themselves with the same "back-to-school" materials.
While they may not have all the materials they need, they have a faculty that supports them and a close-knit community that loves them.
We all band together to ensure their education encompasses both academics and citizenship.
My Project
Just like adults get tired of sitting and maintaining focus in hard chairs all day, children do too! I would like to help my students make the most of their day by adding flexible/comfortable seating options. Research has shown that students learn better when they are able to move around room and be comfortable.
Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble cushions, chair balls, and chair fidget bands.
All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. The chair fidget bands and wobble cushions help students who want to work at their desks but still have something to create movement/pressure while working and learning. The wobble cushions and chair balls are also easily placed at various tables and counters around the room for when students benefit from moving away from their desks.
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
