My second grade classroom is full of diverse students. They speak several languages, come from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and have a variety of family structures. Every child has a different story, and it is important that I provide a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable place for them to come and learn every day.
My students come to school every day full of energy and ready to learn.
Every day, I have the opportunity to listen to their stories, watch their discoveries, and foster their love of learning. They are an inspiration to me, and it is my privilege to help them grow.
During my years of teaching, I have watched my students struggle to sit in their traditional seats for an entire day. They would fidget, wander around, and stand behind their desks. It was a struggle. Finally, last year I began experimenting with some flexible seating options. I had a small variety of chairs, stools, and cushions that the students could choose from. I was amazed at what happened next.
My students enjoyed class and were more engaged in their learning.
They were focusing on their work and participating in lessons. They didn't wander around as much. They also were excited about coming into class every day.
My hope is to round out the flexible seating choices in my classroom with these portable lap desks.
I am excited to expand our flexible seating options.
