The lap trays have become flexible workspaces that allow students to spread out comfortably on the carpet, at tables, or in small groups, giving them a sense of ownership and independence over their learning. One meaningful project we've been working on is using the modeling clay to form letters, numbers, and simple sight words. As students roll, pinch, and shape the clay on their lap trays, they are strengthening the fine motor skills that are essential for writing while also reinforcing early literacy and math concepts. Moments like this highlight how these simple tools are supporting confidence, persistence, and hands-on learning in powerful ways.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement in the room was unforgettable. As I opened the box, students gathered around with wide eyes and endless curiosity, asking questions and bouncing with anticipation. When they realized the trays and clay were for them, cheers filled the classroom. Many students immediately began imagining what they could create, from animals and food to letters and shapes. For some children, this was their first experience using modeling clay at school, and their reactions ranged from quiet wonder to enthusiastic storytelling. The lap trays made it easy for every child to participate without crowding or frustration, and the tactile nature of the clay helped students who struggle with traditional pencil-and-paper tasks stay engaged longer. The joy, focus, and creativity sparked by these materials were immediate and genuine.\r\n\r\nYour support has given our class a strong foundation for what comes next. Moving forward, we will continue using the lap trays and modeling clay to deepen our understanding across subjects. In literacy, students will build sight words, retell stories by sculpting characters and settings, and practice letter formation in a playful, low-pressure way. In math, we are beginning lessons on composing and decomposing numbers, where students will use clay to show groups, patterns, and simple addition stories. We are also incorporating social-emotional learning by having students work together on shared creations, practicing communication, turn-taking, and problem-solving. As the year continues, these materials will remain a core part of our daily routine, supporting hands-on exploration and inclusive learning for every child. Because of you, my students feel seen, supported, and inspired, and they are learning that their ideas matter. Thank you for giving us tools that spark creativity, build confidence, and make learning truly come alive in our kindergarten classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1754682657743,"projectUrl":"project/moving-molding-and-mastering-kindergar/9366154/","projectTitle":"Moving, Molding, and Mastering Kindergarten","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coonfield","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3692270_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1472100842952","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ddbpeterson"},{"teacherId":10074338,"projectId":9651419,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of classroom items. As a second-year teacher, having this kind of support means the world to me—not only personally, but for the benefit of my students as well.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating is more than just new furniture; it's a powerful tool that allows me to meet the diverse needs of my students. Some of my kids need the freedom to wiggle, some need a cozy space to focus, and others just need the choice that helps them feel comfortable and confident while learning. Your donation has made that possible.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in our classroom is contagious! The fresh selection of books sparked excitement and curiosity among students, inviting them to dive into new stories and explore different genres. It also allowed my students to enjoy books they would not naturally pick out themselves. With books that reflected diverse voices and interests, students found characters they could relate to—and some they could learn from—which encouraged more independent reading and meaningful discussions. Our classroom library became a place of discovery and engagement, and reading no longer felt like a task but rather a joyful habit.\r\n\r\nUpgraded lighting also played a key role in transforming the classroom environment. The brighter, more natural light created a welcoming space that supported focus and reduced eye strain, especially during reading and writing activities. Students seemed more energized and alert throughout the day, and the classroom felt more open and cheerful. Together, the new books and lighting helped cultivate a more vibrant, nurturing space where students could thrive academically and feel comfortable expressing themselves.","fullyFundedDate":1715798155601,"projectUrl":"project/lighting-the-way-to-learning/8396588/","projectTitle":"Lighting the Way to Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. SanGiovanni","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7236464_orig.jpg?crop=2835,2835,x0,y472&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1589584953137","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7236464"},{"teacherId":5228830,"projectId":8379939,"letterContent":"I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to our project on DonorsChoose.
