This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom sits near the center of downtown San Antonio, and it is filled with the amazing energy, passion, and creativity of my 19 students. They learn in English and Spanish as part of our school's dual language program, and they work so hard!

Every day, these children amaze me with their eagerness to learn, to explore, to show their individuality.

They are avid readers, talented artists, and creative problem solvers. They have created a strong sense of community which shows in how they talk to each other and how they treat each other.

I am a lucky teacher to be able to join these students in their journey this year.

My Project

Flexible seating options will allow students to choose a seating arrangement that will optimize their daily classroom experience. Students would be able to use stability balls to allow for movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. Lap desks will allow students to choose their work spot in the classroom-they are lightweight and can be easily moved. Stools will also allow for physical movement.

Implementing flexible seating in my class would make the classroom more accessible for the students, increase student engagement, and open the room to a variety of learning styles--there will be places to collaborate, to work silently, to read.

With a fulfilled project, my classroom would look very different! I would be able to offer my students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs.
