Flexible Seating in Preschool!

Help me give my students an opportunity to use flexible seating in their classroom. Rugs, bounce seats and wobble stools are all good choices.

My Students

I teach a variety of students who all have their own special abilities. My students also need a significant amount of support to make it through the school day. For a lot of my students, my class is their first school experience. They all have their successes as well as their challenges. My students are identified with a variety of special needs and receive classroom intervention as well as OT, PT, and speech services.

My students are young and ready to learn, but they are often easily distracted from their learning due to auditory stimulation, visual stimulation, and sensory overload.

My students NEED a calming and comfortable environment.

My Project

My students come to school at the young age of 2 or 3. Each student that enters our program is classified with a disability. We are here to provide early intervention to those students so that they have more opportunities when they reach "school age" at five.

Flexible seating is an accommodation that helps to keep young minds more alert, focused, and engaged.

The different actions possible with flexible seating include wobbling, rocking, bouncing, leaning, standing, and more. These can help increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow through the body, and develop core strength.

We want to incorporate opportunities to sit on a carpet, on a bounce seat, and on a wobble seat. Students will also be given a chance to advocate wants and needs when making these choices!
