My students deserve a music classroom that fits to their needs and helps them be as comfortable and successful as possible.
My students come to school everyday ready to try new things, reach outside of their comfort zones and do their best! Teaching students like this make everyday feel like a dream come true. They inspire me daily to do my best, too!
I see 500+ students a week for music class. This is a lot of kids in one week, but I make sure that I know each student's name and story as well as make them feel seen and heard in class. One way to improve this in my classroom is to provide students with resources they need individually that will help them thrive in every activity we do in music; whether that be singing, dancing, playing instruments or composing our own musical creations!
Having flexible seating options in my room will help provide a learning environment that my students deserve.
Each individual child has a way that they best learn and focus and as an educator it is my job to make sure that they are getting these resources in every aspect of their learning, including music. Whether it be a student who is able to pay attention better by bouncing their foot to the beat on a bouncy band, or someone who focuses on that tricky aspect of 4/4 time while sitting in a wobble chair, I want to make sure that my classroom is somewhere they are safe to be themselves.
Being a music teacher is a very unique privilege in many ways. I feel lucky that I get to know every single child in the school. As an educator, I take every child's learning and well being seriously and want to provide in any way I can to help each child be successful. This project will allow students to have a choice and voice in their education, and being able to provide this positive experience in my room will benefit them in many aspects of their lives!
