I work in a Title 1 school in Watsonville, California. My second graders are very curious, kind, and wonderful problem solvers. They are readers, writers, and mathematicians. They are scientists, artists, and leaders. They work so hard throughout the day and take great pride in their classroom and their love for learning keeps me energized!
One of my goals as their teacher is to create a learning environment that makes them feel safe, as well as space where they can take ownership of their learning.
We use a workshop model of instruction which emphasizes choice. It would be amazing if we could create a working environment that is comfortable for every student.
Students love to sit in different places around the classroom, but we don't have enough comfortable options or surfaces for an efficient work environment.
The trapezoid tables and foam cushions will create a low to the ground, cafe style area to work. The stools will be used at the large teacher guided table. And the clipboards will allow students to move around the classroom with ease. This will allow for more collaboration and greater stamina with their assignments.
