How many of you can sit comfortably in a plastic chair for 90 minutes? Not many sixth grade students can either! I teach three different sixth grade language arts classes daily and have learned through research and experience that students need to have access to flexible seating options in order to optimize their learning. By having a choice in where and how they learn in the classroom, my students will be able to better focus on the curriculum and master the reading and writing skills they need to move into middle school.
Flexible seating also allows students to work collaboratively with their peers and have a choice in creating their ideal workspace.
My students are growing and changing as they move from elementary to middle school, and having seating that meets their needs will add to their success in the classroom! Thank you so much for helping me fund my project!
My Project
Flexible seating options give my sixth grade students the option to choose where they learn best. They are not limited to sitting at tables the entire time we are in the classroom. My students have the freedom to move around the room and work in an area that best suits their needs, whether it is on the floor and working with a clip board, at a small group table with their peers, or even laying under a table while reading a book.
My students are more engaged in their learning when they have a choice of where to sit and learn.
The Kore Wobble Chairs and exercise balls with stability rings will help there to be less distractions in the classroom because the students are more comfortable and focused on their own learning rather than on what their peers are doing. The Wobble Chairs and exercise balls are flexible and allow for students to move and get their wiggles out while they work, and can be used in place of traditional chairs at their tables or placed around the room to work collaboratively or independently throughout class. My students work collaboratively every day and flexible seating options will allow them to form different work areas around the room.
By giving my students flexible seating options they will discover new ways to help them focus in the classroom and grow as learners.
