Flexible Seating, Hands on Math, and Partner Reading

Help me give my students flexible seating in the form of original bouncy bands and wobble cushions. Flexible seating gives students an outlet for their energy allowing their minds to focus on their learning.

My Students

My class comes from a Title 1 school, which means many of them to come from a low socioeconomic status background. Nearly 75% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch. My students have been significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, socially, emotionally, and academically in many ways. They are excited to learn and very talented, but many have missed out on important learning opportunities over the last two years. The majority of my students did not participate in online learning for the end of the 2019-2020 school year or for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. As a result, they missed out on crucial educational and social experiences which help them develop their foundational math and reading skills. These years are also pivotal in developing a love their education. My students have a lot of energy and I want to provide them with the accommodations that will support them in being successful in school in a safe and healthy learning environment. In addition I would like to be able to provide them with many tools to help them discover their interests and increase their curiosity towards reading, math and science.

My Project

Engaged learning means that students are more likely to remember and apply new learning independently. Most activities are interactive and encourage students working with others while supporting the loss of academic learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hands on learning is a great way for students to interact with each other, building connections, channel their energy into positive outlets and create a positive learning environment.

Students learn in unique ways and providing them with resources to channel their independence and creativity allows them to learn in a way that is best for them.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
