I am excited to be moving to 6th grade next year. My goal is to provide an authentic learning environment for them to really see what making sound, personal, learning choices is all about and hopefully, instill a life skill of selecting the right environment for their learning style and a life long love for knowledge. Flexible seating can provide this type of positive learning environment and afford students the opportunity to find their best learning space. Choice is powerful!
My Project
Providing flexible seating options for students not only allows for students to find their optimal learning space, but it also creates an opportunity for choice, collaboration, and responsibility. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed.
My students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
I have noticed that my students need to move. Standing desks, chair choice, ball seats, stools, and floor seating will allow for learning exploration and increase focus.
