Flexible Seating for Wiggly Learners!

My students need the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. Flexible seating will help my wiggly students stay engaged in their learning by allowing them movement while working!

My Students

My 1st and 2nd grade students are creative, highly energetic, and eager to learn! They love showing their work and explaining what they know. They learn best when they are highly engaged, ask questions about what they are learning, and they love hands on projects! I encourage a lot of movement in the classroom because nobody likes to sit still and I like to empower my students to have a choice in everything they do.

My students need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning.

Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. By having alternative seating, students can learn to make choices, have their own space to work, find a seating arrangement that meets their needs, and it helps with engagement.

My Project

Just like adults, students get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day. Students do too! Having a wiggle stool or a stay put balance ball as optional seating, allows my wiggly students to move more while they are working. Allowing movement actually helps young students to stay more focused. Also, giving students a choice on where to sit and having them think about what works best for them, encourages decision making.

Wiggle stools and stay put balance balls to sit on, will give the students the choices they need to be successful.

These new items, along with regular chairs, cushions on the floor at a short table, and inflated textured cushions provide 5 work stations in our classroom that the students can pick from. It will help create an exciting, engaging work environment for all. I can't wait to see the work stations set up in our classroom.
