My Project

In my first grade classroom, I strive to give each and every student what they need to be their most successful. One way that I accomplish this is to address their social emotional needs. In my classroom, I have several ways of accomplishing this goal: calming corner, explicit SEL lessons, and fidget tools are just a few examples. This year, I would like to add flexible seating to our first grade classroom as a way to continue addressing individual student needs.

My students speak a variety of different languages, have a variety of different academic abilities, and need a variety of supports to ensure they have the best opportunity for success.

I believe that adding flexible seating to our classroom would empower students to reflect upon what they need to be their most successful and choose the seating that is just right for them. For students who need a calm, stationary work space, the floor seats would make a great addition for a floor table. For students who need a lot of movement, the ball seats are the perfect choice. For students who are somewhere in between, the wobble stools would help them to have just the right amount of wiggle.
