Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, fun, and inspiring young individuals. They love to question the world around them and dive deep into conversations! I am blessed with students who come to school each day ready to learn and put their best foot forward. Our Title I school has students from Kindergarten to 5th grade, including ASD units. We have students who come from many different backgrounds. This includes a large amount of students who are ESE, ESL, or who need individualized needs met through 504s.
My students learn best through movement, choice, and discussion.
When you enter my room you will find students engaged in discussion the majority of the time. This allows them to learn from each other and make unique connections to the material. In order to support this collaborative environment I want to enhance student seating options.
My Project
Imagine walking into a room and seeing all students engaged in their learning! These flexible seating options will not only bring engagement to the classroom, but allow every student to reach success. Students being comfortable in their learning environment is the number one way for each student to reach success in the classroom. Allowing students to choose where to sit allows them to best make a choice to help them focus on each task given to them. I have already seen success in this by allowing students to move away from traditional seating arrangements. Students can move desks into collaborative groups for learning, work at tables around the room, or choose to sit on the floor around the room.
The items above are intended to help directly impact the engagement and focus of students as they work on the computer, work in small groups, or as independent learners.
So, why these items? Lap desks give them the space to write or use a laptop while choosing a place in the room to best focus either on their own or with a teammate. Wobble cushions, chair balls, and active learning chairs help students who need movement as they are working. Stretch Foot Bands allow students to use traditional chairs and desks, but offer them an option of being able to move around a bit. Each item can be used in multiple areas in the room and are designed to help all types of learners within our classroom.
All of these items will be an excellent addition to our classroom!
