I work with students that have social, emotional, or medical barriers between themselves and education - deeming them at-risk in a general education setting, without added support. Each of my caseload students spend one class period with me in small, supportive groups, but utilize my room at any time during the school day should they need it. This is my seventh year teaching, but my first in this role and specific district. I have been building this program from the ground up and absolutely love the students I work with and the important work we do together. I am adding more students to my caseload at semester due to need and it is a very tight physical space already. Flexible seating is costly, but absolutely beneficial to student productivity and comfort, as well as far more practical in our small space. My goal is to promote student choice and focus while creating a safe haven for them while they are in my care.
My Project
I am a high school teacher and an at-risk case worker. I work with students that have trauma-related, social, emotional, medical, academic barriers between themselves and education, deeming them at-risk in a typical general education setting. Each of my students spends a one hour class with me, daily, in small and very supportive groups. This is my seventh year teaching, but my first in this role and specific district. I have been essentially building this program from the ground up and absolutely love the students I work with and the important work we do together. I am adding more students to my classes at semester and it is a very tight space already. Flexible seating is costly but absolutely beneficial to student productivity as well as for utilizing the smaller space. My goal is to support student choice and focus while creating a safe haven for them while they are in my care. Thank you so much for any and all donations and well wishes.
