This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school ready to learn and eager for new experiences.

I strive to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

I just became a second grade teacher four weeks into the school year after teaching third and fourth grade for the past 13 years. My younger students need a carpet for carpet time whole class reading. I would also like to provide them with flexible seating options around the class. I am requesting wobble seats, space saving stack-able stools and floor cushions.

These flexible seating options will allow for more flexibility for partner work and ensure that my students don't have to sit directly on the ground.

They love to work together and have collaborative conversations. These supplies will allow them to be more comfortable while doing so.
