Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A large percentage of my students are English language learners, in which English is their second language. Several of them are bilingual and speak both Spanish and English. The elementary school is located in a low income community and is in desperate need of reconstruction, since it was built during the 1950s. Due to budget cuts and minimal financial support, our students lack the sufficient resources they need to excel academically. Approximately 98% of my students are currently residing in a low income neighborhood, therefore they lack the proper resources to foster their learning.
My Project
I have an amazing group of students who enjoy working collaboratively and in groups. They are outspoken, hardworking, and willing to improve their academics. I give my students the opportunity to work in groups and they truly benefit from flexible seating. By allowing my students to choose their seating, they are more motivated, focused, and engaged during instruction and independent work. Their freedom of choice allows my students to become more responsible and learn to use their time more effectively. I love providing my students the opportunity to roam and find comfortable spaces where they are able to work effectively and efficiently. The tables I am requesting will allow them the opportunity to expand their flexible seating options. I desire to create a classroom that appears less traditional, which means no desks. This will allow my students to feel more comfortable and engaged. This project will truly mean a lot to me and my students!
