There are 9 special education students in my K-2 self contained classroom. They have varying disabilities such as autism, specific learning disabilities, speech and language impairments and ADHD. They are below grade level in all academic areas. They are a sweet bunch of kids who all work really hard to grow academically and socially.
All of my students receive occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy.
We also have a therapy dog that comes to our class. The dog is very calming to the students and the owner reads to the students. We spend our days learning math, reading, science, social studies and social skills.
My Project
My students need some flexible seating options. It is very hard for some of my students to stay seated at their desk all day. My students also need space away from others sometimes. If they have an option of where to sit like a beanbag or comfy floor seat, this will help them be able to separate from the others. I want my students to take control of their learning and find seating option that works best for them. The more my students are able to rock, wiggle, and bounce the more they are able to pay attention.
Please help me help my students be successful in the classroom.
