My students need four stability ball chairs, peanut balance seats, and butterfly seating so that they can have the freedom to "squirm" without distracting from their learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kiddos are amazing! The population of students I work with come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 89% of our school receiving free and reduced-price lunch. The great thing about these kids is they don't let it hold them down!
They are starving for opportunities that are lacking in our area.
We are a diverse population with strong roots in the military, as well as many single-parent households, and even families with grandparents stepping in to raise children. My school in particular houses three SPED programs, including an autism program (TAP) as well as two moderate needs programs.
Each classroom supports students with many unique challenges, and my room is no exception! I have some very energetic kiddos this year who are itching to learn but have difficulty with focus and self-control. I know they are great scholars, and hope that with some of the projects I have intended for DonorsChoose, they will have the opportunity to show what they can do!
My Project
I've been an educator for ten years now. The one thing I have consistently noticed as each year passes is that the students get more and more restless and require more stimulation. The population of students I work with, although from a low poverty area, are eager to learn. They express wonder and excitement with each new lesson.
However, teachers are forced to compete with modern advancements in gaming that produce scholars who are normalized to over-stimulation, creating students who have difficulty focusing in a more traditional classroom setting.
It is my hope that flexible seating arrangements will help my students gain control of their bodies so that their minds are free to learn.
I wish to allow students the flexibility of sitting in something other than a hard, rigid chair for eight hours a day. I want to be able to enhance the learning opportunities for students in my room, as well as provide stimulating experiences for future third graders who come to my class.
