I've been an educator for ten years now. The one thing I have consistently noticed as each year passes is that the students get more and more restless and require more stimulation. The population of students I work with, although from a low poverty area, are eager to learn. They express wonder and excitement with each new lesson. However, teachers are forced to compete with modern advancements in gaming that produce scholars who are normalized to over-stimulation, creating students who have difficulty focusing in a more traditional classroom setting. It is my hope that flexible seating arrangements will help my students gain control of their bodies so that their minds are free to learn. I wish to allow students the flexibility of sitting in something other than a hard, rigid chair for eight hours a day. I want to be able to enhance the learning opportunities for students in my room, as well as provide stimulating experiences for future third graders who come to my class.
