Help me give my students flexible seating options to support engagement and comfort in the classroom. Floor seating, lap desks, and wobble chairs help keep bodies under control to allow their minds to get to work!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After our return from distance learning, we have seen an increase in trauma and social-emotional needs. Students are readjusting to a full academic schedule with increased demands on their learning. When trying to balance their own physical and mental needs with academic tasks, flexible seating allows all students to get comfortable and practice body awareness.
Allowing students some choice in their seating encourages work completion, collaboration and creative thinking.
These modifications help them become successful in managing their own learning preferences and become independent lifetime learners.
My goal for these students is not only to meet academic standards, but to instill a growth mindset so that they can navigate obstacles and achieve their future goals.
