The students in this demographic who are balancing two cultures and two languages often lack opportunities to build strong vocabularies in either of the languages they speak. With limited funding and availability of translated texts, it can be challenging to attain those same memorable books that are accessible in English. Building a library of rich books in Spanish not only inspires life-long readers, but exposes students to new words in a meaningful context. I have selected texts that represent the interests and needs of the students in my classroom and books that have the illustrations to support them as independent readers.
