Curious, inquisitive, hardworking...just a few of the qualities I admire about my students.
"I never teach my pupils, I only provide the conditions in which they can learn." -Albert Einstein.
Teaching children in the 21st century has shifted our role from being the 'instructor' to facilitating students to construct their own learning. To give students control and responsibility for their learning, the facilitator must have the structure, organization and tools to engage students and build their confidence as lifelong learners. My goal is to give my students an environment in which they are engaged and active, feel comfortable and relaxed, and are excited about learning. My goal is to provide a flexible learning environment for the students in my classes.
My Project
How do you learn best? The way I learn best may not be the way the person sitting next to me will be most successful.
Sitting during long professional development sessions confirms my belief that students should have the ability to choose and be comfortable in their learning environment.
I want my students to have many different options when choosing a position to learn from.
This past year I started a flexible learning environment with yoga mats and lap trays. I built a round table low to the ground for students to sit at as another option for our flexible learning environment. My hope is to give them more options and to feel comfortable in my classroom as they grow and learn this year. I want to give them options to stand and work on their laptops, or to sit comfortably at a level conducive to their learning.
