My Students

My students are experiencing their first years of school in my Kindergarten classroom. These experiences are setting a foundation for the rest of their academic careers. As their teacher, I want to create a lasting impression that sets each child off on the right foot in school, and in their lives beyond school.

Kindergarten students are capable of so many amazing things, and I want to be able to capture all of their growth!

Our school serves a diverse population, and many of our students experience difficulties in their home lives due to socioeconomic status. It is my goal to make a positive impact in their lives from the moment they reach my classroom door, regardless of their background. Creating this welcoming learning environment takes a lot of creativity, but the engagement and growth of my students is worth it!

My Project

As students come to my classroom, they are invited to learn to the best of their ability. For many of my students, this is their first ever school experience. I want my students to be comfortable with school and their learning. Flexible seating is a great option to allow my students to express their learning in different styles. Flexible seating also allows students different seating options in the classroom when we are reading our very first books!! My students are fortunate to have a great supply of books to utilize in the classroom as they begin their journey into reading. What we do not have in our room is a comfortable and inviting place to read our very first books. My wish is for my classroom to be a warm and inviting place for learning to occur.

My project would include 5 "wobbly" chairs and 4 reading loungers.

These seats will help develop my reading center. This reading center will be a place students can go to read their favorite books. Many of my students do not have a pleasurable environment at home in which to read. By establishing a comfortable reading environment within the classroom, it would spark many of my students interests in reading. Is there any better time to begin a love for literature than in kindergarten?
