My students need flexible seating options that meet their learning needs. Options such as the Kore wobble stool and Runtz ball chair, will improve their overall posture while also helping them focus and learn!!
The first grade students at my public, low-income school come from a variety of backgrounds. At only six or seven years old, these students tend to be full of energy. Sitting in a classroom and staying focused for any set amount of time can be difficult for them. Therefore, having flexible seating options that allow them to move and focus is a necessity. Flexible seating options will allow them to keep their attention longer and increase their success in the classroom.
From my experience, students learn best when they are engaged, excited and loved.
Offering flexible seating options will not only excite them, but will teach them how to find and use "smart spots" or learning spots where they can learn best. Not all students benefit from the same type of seating, so it is my goal to help them find their learning styles and preferences, so that they can be prepared and knowledgeable for many years to come!
My Project
In first grade, the students often have so much energy that they don't always know what to do with it! One of the most disheartening things is when I watch a student who is trying to concentrate be overtaken by their body. The frustration level goes up which is directly related to the material being learned, and then......we "hate" math. It makes me sad to see their bodies interfering with their passion to learn! If the students had more flexible seating options I can only imagine what we could accomplish!
What's even better, is that these flexible seating options not only benefit their learning, but also improves their health.
In order to sit on these flexible seating options, the students must use their abdominal muscles. By utilizing their abdominal muscles they are burning more energy while also improving their overall posture. The Kore wobble stools and Runtz Ball chair that I desire for my students require different levels of abdominal strength which is more practical for different types of students.
