This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school in Hinesville where 100% of our students receive free breakfast. My school is located in a low socio-economic area where many of the students are being raised in a single parent home or by their grandparents. Half of my students receive backpack buddies. My students are faced with challenges beyond my control. Despite the challenges, I encourage them to take pride in their efforts and encourage them to challenge their minds.
My students love music and moving to the beat of music.
They are always attentive and excited whenever they get the opportunity to learn while in motion.
My goal is to focus on student growth and learning although, I can not control student's home life, I can control their learning experiences when they enter my classroom.
My Project
One area my students struggle in is focussing and remaining seated during instructional learning. I feel with the use of flexible seating, students will be able to relax and enjoy their learning environment to the fullest. The wobble seats will be used for students who have a hard time staying seated for a period of time.
Wobble stools will permit students to move and yet maintain focus while learning.
The beanbag seats will allow students to relax during centers and independent learning. Students will be able to choose where they work and with whom apart from the traditional seating classroom arrangement.
