My second grade students are the most amazing kids! They are so inquisitive and love coming to school every day. I am blessed to be a part of their lives and love my job! A typical morning at work for me starts with hugs, high fives and shouts of "Good morning, Mrs. Schafer!" and that is just on my walk from my car to the school door.
Every year my classroom consists of students that speak English as their second language, varying socioeconomic backgrounds, and special education needs; however they all come to school ready, willing, and able to learn!
Throughout the school year, we become a family. Second graders grow so much throughout the year. They come in very dependent on adults for their choices and thinking. My end of the year goal for them is to think and make good decisions for themselves.
My Project
To promote social and emotional growth in my students, I am I asking for standing desks for flexible seating options. Having these seating options will promote our community environment and assist students in feeling safe to share in their learning, feelings and emotions.
When students are comfortable physically, many times they become more comfortable socially.
Students let their guard down and are able to open up to their peers and teacher. Right now, our desks do not promote comfort for everyone. Many students would prefer to stand when they work and my goal is that our classroom gives them that option. These items would help us create an environment to promote emotional and social learning for everyone.
