Our 5th-grade team is comprised of a variety of students of 80 amazing students. We are a district made up of a variety of types of learners. We are a full inclusion team. Our students have a wide variety of needs and abilities. 40% of our Team are on Individual Educational Plans. We are moving toward personalized learning for all students by 2020. Our team has students working on their level while learning State Standards. We strive to differentiate instruction to meet the students where they are in their learning.
Our school focuses on a Growth Mindset where students are encouraged to focus on growth vs grades.
We try to build stamina and perseverance for the long run! We set short term and long term goals to keep a personal focus on our learning.
My Project
Our school has taken on an initiative to provide flexible classroom seating for students. We are trying to provide seating that is more conducive to teamwork and collaboration as needed. Flexible seating helps to provide students with a variety of benefits: comfort, collaboration, movement, choice, and community. My classroom has mini-tables with stools where students can collaborate to work on projects. The reading corner is a place where students can relax while researching and confer with other students. Purchased items would help to provide a variety of choices on where to sit while working.

We are trying to match our environment to our philosophy of making learning more individualized. Different students work better in informal learning atmospheres. The set up of the room helps to provide a variety of quick flexible groupings: pairs, groups, or individuals. We appreciate donations to develop our initiative.
