Our classroom has been converted from a traditional classroom, with standard desks and chairs, to a flexible seating environment with a variety of areas for students to collaborate with other students. We believe that students who have options of where to sit and who have choices that are informal and comfortable will produce their best work. Our 15 year old, dirty, tattered carpets are being replaced by tiles. We need a few comfy carpets for students to feel comfortable and have options of where to sit while learning. In our classroom, students enjoy laying down while listening to a fabulous story read by the teacher. Students also enjoy working on the carpet having buddy brainstorm sessions, writing essays or stories on their chromebooks or working together on various literature projects. Our students are encouraged to own their decisions and monitor their growth in their learning. We believe that responsible choices and options of how and where you learn encourages students to be empowered and feel more relaxed and ready to learn. We would love to have a few carpets to keep our environment student friendly.
