Flexible Seating for Collaborative Learning

My students need 4 flexible seating group options. The 4 groups I choose are storage table top, beanbag, futon, and saucer chair. This allows flexible seating AND group collaboration

My Students

I teach 9th grade English to about 100 amazing students in a small rural town in Cattaraugus, New York. Our school has made many strides to prepare our 21st century learners for the future including 1:1 iPads and Smartboards; however, our classrooms are still set up in a very traditional manner with rows of desks. My students thrive on group collaboration, movement, and engagement. They come in everyday with full energy and ideas and they constantly inspire me, motivate me and give me great hope for the future. I strive for my classroom to be a place where my students WANT to learn, and a safe place that allows them to collaborate while catering to their diverse learning needs.

My Project

My students are active, energetic learners who spend a majority of our class time collaborating with peers. I strive to make meaningful lessons that allow them to stretch their creativity and talk to one another to explore reading and writing. While I have tried every seating arrangement that my classroom allows to transform our traditional rowed desks into collaborative, inviting, and engaging groups, nothing has worked. That is where your donations will transform my classroom. I will use the futon, beanless bag inflatable chairs and saucer chairs to create flexible seating in groups. The desks with cubbies will be used for collaborative group discussions and table top teamwork.

I imagine how well my students could learn if they had other seating options and group seating to allow the movement, collaboration and learning they desire.

My students deserve this space, and I hope you will consider donating to my well-deserving classroom
