Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in an area with varied incomes and high poverty. The last year has been especially difficult and full of trauma. Despite their situation, they were motivated and ready to learn even online during distance learning.
I want to make sure that the return to the in-person classroom instruction goes smoothly for my students.
I remind my kids that we will find solutions rather than make excuses. Sometimes we will succeed and sometimes fail, then try again. The one thing that we don't do is give up. This attitude helps us maintain a fearless class environment where we try, and try again.
My Project
My students have been asked to sit behind plastic barriers since returning to school after the 2020 school closures. It has stifled collaboration and the ability to see the board, and each other. These supplies will help my students feel more comfortable as we slowly return to normalcy.
Flexible seating supports students' needs and encourages collaboration.
Wobble chairs, balance balls, as well as floor cushions will transform how students interact with each other and the content. It will shift our classroom environment and make students feel heard that their requested supplies have been fulfilled.
