My students need balance balls with stability legs, stools, wobble cushions, and knee mats for flexible seating. The crates will provide storage for books & supplies at the new table groups.
I teach at the largest title one school in my district. We have a very high population of low-income families who struggle daily to make ends meet. Students come to school looking for a safe place to learn and their emotional needs to be met. We have a lot of programs that help students with school supplies, food, and clothes. We also have a lot of fabulous staff at our school who give their hearts to these kids.
Even though their home life is a struggle, they come to school with big smiles and so much energy to learn.
They work very hard each day despite their backgrounds and contribute very meaningful insight to each of our lessons. Who can say, "I love what I do?" I can. These kids are so precious and mean the world to me!
My Project
My students are very active learners and would benefit with the different options that flexible seating would provide for them during the day. They would be able to listen to their bodies and decide which place allows them to excel in their studies.
Every student has a different learning style, and this environment would allow for them to find the best place to do their best learning.
Students would get to choose from balance balls, stools, balance disks, standing, or just sitting in a regular chair. Research on brain-based classrooms say that flexible seating has been known to increase motivation and engagement, and improve behavior and academic performance.
