Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a very diverse group of students. Around 90% of my students come from low-income families, a few students have special services. My school is at its first year of being a Fine Arts Academy. They have opened this opportunity for the children in our community and surrounding to learn new extra-curricular activities. I enjoy allowing my students to have a highly engaging day by planning different activities according to their needs and levels. I work with 22 Pre-Kindergarten students. These students are very active and eager to learn. They love to come to school. For some, it is their most consistent thing in their life.

My students need a safe, loving, and caring environment with structure, consistent routines, and high expectations.

I love working with these fun, lovable, and energetic students. They keep me busy, but their progress is what I look forward to the most. I have high expectations for my students because I want them to know they are capable of so much! I love encouraging my student to learn and develop through play and hands-on learning. Children learn through play and this is the best time of their lives to start creating those experiences.

My Project

My student are fun, energetic and eager to learn 4 and 5 year olds! They come to school full of energy that keeps us busy all day long. Most of these students come from low social-economic house holds. They are always so eager to learn and work at school. We are always learning new concepts and having small group table time.

Why do you need to spread the love for our class?

Most of our students are English as a second language learners, at-risk of not graduating, and low poverty. Though they come from these backgrounds, this does not stop them from growing! They are fun, intellectual, and energetic Pre-K students. They come to school in hopes of learning new language that has never been exposed to them along with all the Pre-K requirements. Some of our students come from emotional trauma backgrounds, causing it more difficult to focus and attend to the school day.

In today’s early childhood world, we notice the lack of proprioceptive awareness since kids today are growing up in a technology driven world. Children don’t know how to play and understand the world around them.

Most of my students are full of high energy, fidgety, bouncy, touchy and constantly standing up. Most of my students are constantly getting up and not wanting to have a seat in their traditional chairs.

Think about it- how do you think flexible seating will help resolve their energy levels?

We want learning retention to be higher especially in the more vulnerable population. Data has shown that if a student is relaxed and comfortable they can retain more and feel safe. I want to provide a safe and comfy classroom with options to get their wiggles out while working in small groups.
