As a first year teacher, I am eager and excited to begin this remarkable adventure! Though I have not yet met my first graders, I want to provide them with a space that reflects who they are as individuals and 21st century learners. My hope is that my students will walk into our classroom with an eager spirit and excitement for learning.
I am teaching in a Title 1, high-poverty school where diversity is embraced, students are challenged, and the staff is committed to provide our kids with access to the resources they need to learn and thrive.
Many of my students are faced with challenges that no five or six year old should face. By providing a warm, safe, and positive learning environment, I am able to help them grow and become valuable members of our community.
I have a very diverse group of learners this year! With so many students who have different learning needs, I am looking to expand my classroom seating options in an effort to make our learning space more student-centered. I would like to provide my students with wobbly chairs, floor cushions, bouncy chairs, and stools so that they can have a variety of options to sit, kneel, or wobble on an exercise ball. These seating options will provide an outlet for them to let out any extra energy, which allows for better focus and engagement. The more options that we have available to students, the more successful they can be in their learning environment!
Recent research has shown that flexible seating elevates student engagement and fosters collaboration while empowering children to think about how they work best.
My students will love being able to choose seating options as they work independently and collaboratively in our classroom. It will allow them to take ownership of their own learning through choices and will motivate them and engage them because they have the choice to decide what works best for them.
Donations to this project will help students be the best learners they can be! The more opportunities that we have for these kids to find their best learning opportunity, the better my students can be! I want these children to have every opportunity possible that I can provide!
