This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students come from low income households and receive free lunch. They are 1 to 2 years behind academically, and schoolwork is challenging for them. For many of them, English is their second language. My students have to work hard to reach grade level!

Although these 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders face many obstacles, they continuously try to reach their goals with smiles on their faces.

They are eager, motivated and always put forth maximum effort. They strive to make their families, teachers and community proud!

My Project

Due to their young ages and the challenges my students face, they struggle with focus in the classroom. This makes learning even more difficult for them. During instructional time, we spend a lot of time on the floor in front of a white board. During this part of the day, it seems particularly hard for my students to concentrate on the work we are doing. Flexible seating would allow my students to be comfortable and make their own seating choices.

Focus is absolutely key in a productive learning environment!

The flexible seating I am asking for includes Kore chairs, a ball chair, wobble cushions and reading beanbags. These seating options are known to increase engagement and effective learning in the classroom. They are very mobile and can be used in many areas of the classroom.

I am hopeful that these seating options will help my students to have the focus they need and create a successful learning environment !
