Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consists of 15 student preschoolers from diverse backgrounds in a full-day Head Start program, some of whom are English language learners or have high sensory needs. They are bright, energetic, and adorable little ones.

They enjoy constructing and experimenting with various materials, and their young minds are energized and eager to learn.

Our school helps students build the foundations needed for literacy, math, science, arts, and social skills through active learning and individual needs.

My Project

During the past year, children have not had the opportunity to enjoy a comfortable and comfy space in the classroom. COVID removed rugs, soft toys, dolls, and other materials that usually children use to calm down and feel safe around the classroom. I want my future preschoolers to feel comfortable, welcoming, and safe in their new classroom. I am looking to transform my space in the hopes of cultivating student engagement and build up their social-emotional skills.

Since I know sitting at a table in a regular chair all day is tough for the typical four-year-old, I would like to be able to offer my preschoolers several options of seating around the classroom.

These flexible seating options will make a great impact on my students' social-emotional development because they will have a choice to find their most comfortable seat to do their best work around the classroom.
