Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my class this year can be described as resilient. They have never known a school year without COVID protocols, but are excelling in making the best of the situation. Several attended kindergarten completely online last year, while many others attended in-person or a combination of the two.

This year, students are learning both the first grade curriculum while also learning the expectations of being in school and following the COVID protocols.

Wearing masks, social distancing, and constant cleaning have become part of our classroom routines. Even though students may not fully understand COVID, they are doing an amazing job adapting to the impacts.

My Project

Flexible seating and hands-on manipulative will allow students more autonomy in their learning. These resources will be used primarily during independent work and help keep students engaged and on-task. Flexible seating and hands-on activities can also be used in various other ways, such as social-emotional, classroom management, and learner responsibility.

The products and materials I have chosen will help students stay on track with their learning.

Students will be allowed to use these products both independently, as centers, and working with me. Flexible seating will allow for movement, choice, and comfort. While working on their writing or on their computers (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.6), flexible seating can help students work collaboratively. Students can complete their work in a fun, active environment. Additionally, the use of manipulatives will increase understanding and learning, whether it be using them to solve math equations or practicing letter names and sounds (CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.2).
