My Students

My students thrive in a classroom environment that is challenging, nurturing, and diverse. In the classroom my students are provided with global learning experiences that integrate their own cultural experiences in a 21st century learning environment. Students strive to succeed and work hard to develop their reading comprehension but at times students level of comprehension is limited due to their reading stamina and will to learn.

In order for students to enhance their reading stamina and will to learn, they need to be provided with relaxing and inviting spaces to read.

Students develop a positive mindset to think and are open to apply reading comprehension thinking skills.

My Project

In the classroom, 5th grade students thrive when given choices. Flexible seating allows students to choose comfortable seats that help build their stamina to stay focused for longer periods of time and tackle complex text.

Through flexible seating students form a community of learners that collaborate, communicate, and commit to value knowledge.

Students who choose to sit in chairs with wheels have the flexibility to move around as needed when given the opportunity to collaborate with partners and in small groups. The book boxes are key to their flexibility as students are able to move around the room with their books boxes to read and complete tasks. At times students choose to sit with a small mat on the floor and use a lap desk to read or complete assignments.

During the course of the school year, students are successful to complete their learning goals due to flexible seating. Students energy to learn when given choice and comfort builds a community of thinkers.
