Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education in a self-contained room. My students are eager to learn but have a difficult time being able to control their feelings and emotions. My goal is to create a learning space that meets the sensory and social-emotional needs of my students. Sensory support can ease anxiety, calm down a student who is having a difficult time, and encourage basic foundational skills. Teaching self-regulation, calming strategies, and social skills is imperative to student learning.
All of these sensory tools (flexible seating, sensory learning materials, etc.) will encourage students to get their bodies ready to learn, foster independence, and help build a sense of community!
