Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My hard-working, motivated students come to school ready to make the most of their education. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. My students are creative, clever, and have positive attitudes in the classroom, despite any difficulties they face.
My students deserve high-quality resources to support their access to a high-quality education.
My students are eager to learn and do their best, and I aim to do anything I can to meet their needs! Throughout the day I teach 70 students.
My Project
My students need a more stimulating environment. Pencil and paper can get boring - I want to use dry-erase stickers to create tables that students can write on and erase on. Allowing students to draw/show their thinking on white boards is a much more engaging and exciting way to create than to just put pencil to paper. I also want to include wobble chairs in my classroom so that students can keep their bodies moving while staying focused on their learning.
These flexible seating options will promote self-regulation and students will begin or continue to develop skills that will help them become independent individuals that are knowledgeable of their unique needs as learners.
